Borussia Dortmund reportedly hold off competition from Fulham to win the race to sign Niclas Fullkrug from Werder Bremen.

Borussia Dortmund have reportedly beaten Fulham to the signature of Werder Bremen forward Niclas Fullkrug.

Despite signing Raul Jimenez from Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this summer, Fulham have been on the lookout for a new striker following the departure of Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Serbia international ended his five-year association with the club to complete a £46m move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.

With Fulham looking to sign a replacement before Friday's transfer deadline, they had seemingly identified Fullkrug as a potential target.

A recent report suggested Fulham were lining up a potential bid for the Bremen striker, amid competition from German giants Dortmund.

However, according to journalist Patrick Berger, Dortmund have won the race to sign Fullkrug after reaching an agreement over a €15m (£12.9m) deal.

Fullkrug, who has earned nine caps for Germany, has agreed personal terms with Dortmund and will put pen to paper on a three-year contract.

With all of the parties involved aiming to finalise the deal as soon as possible, Fullkrug could undergo a medical later today before being unveiled as a new Dortmund player.

The forward evidently impressed Dortmund after racking up 16 league goals last season to finish the season as the Bundesliga's joint-top goalscorer alongside Christopher Nkunku.

Fullkrug is set to leave Bremen after four years with the club, where he scored 49 goals in 124 appearances across all competitions.

Dortmund's imminent arrival will add to Edin Terzic's current centre-forward options, which include Sebastien Haller and Youssoufa Moukoko.

Fulham, meanwhile, will turn their attention to their other targets, having recently been linked with Atalanta BC's Duvan Zapata and Flamengo's Pedro.
