Bolton Wanderers confirm they have appealed the red card shown to Gary Cahill at Spurs this weekend.

Bolton Wanderers have confirmed that they have appealed the red card shown to defender Gary Cahill in the first half of the Trotters' defeat at Tottenham.

Stuart Attwell produced the red in the 17th minute after adjudging that the England international had brought down fellow countryman Scott Parker as the last man.

Replays indicate the decision was harsh as Parker was a long way from goal.

After the game Bolton manager Owen Coyle said: "To say I am angry about it is a bit of an understatement.

"I am totally bemused by the decision. Maybe it was a free-kick or a yellow card, but not a red."

Bolton chairman Phil Gartside also criticised Attwell's decision, describing it as a "disgrace".
