Athletic Bilbao see off Real Betis

Inaki Williams scores twice as Athletic Bilbao secure a 3-1 victory over Real Betis in La Liga.

Athletic Bilbao leapfrogged Real Betis in the La Liga table by claiming a 3-1 victory over their opponents at Estadio Benito Villamarin this evening.

It look the visitors just eight minutes to break the deadlock as Inaki Williams crashed home from the edge of the box, after Betis had failed to clear from a corner.

As the game edged towards the half-hour mark Aritz Aduriz had the chance to double their lead, but he could only fire wide from close range.

However, they did manage to grab a second goal on the stroke of half time as Williams arrived inside the six-yard box to flick in Raul Garcia's cross.

After the break Betis were handed a lifeline as Williams gave away a penalty for handling the ball inside the box, and Ruben Castro stepped up to convert from the spot.

The goal failed to spark a fightback and with three minutes left to play Garcia latched on to Aduriz's knock down before drilling a strike into the corner to seal the points for the visitors.
