Vincent Kompany absent as Belgium name squad for Euro 2016

Marc Wilmots names his Belgium squad for Euro 2016, with captain Vincent Kompany absent because of injury but Divock Origi making the cut.

Belgium have named an initial 24-man squad for this summer's Euro 2016 tournament in France.

Captain Vincent Kompany misses out as expected having damaged his groin last week while playing for Manchester City, while Liverpool striker Divock Origi makes the cut despite currently being out injured.

With Kompany out, Red Devils boss Marc Wilmots has confirmed that Chelsea star Eden Hazard will wear the armband in France.

Wilmots will have to trim the number by one in time for the Championships, where Belgium, the second-ranked side in FIFA's world standings, are in a group with Italy, Sweden and the Republic of Ireland.
