Franck Ribery to ignore Michel Platini warning

Franck Ribery says that he will ignore UEFA president Michel Platini's warning and not postpone his retirement from France.

Former France winger Franck Ribery has refused to postpone his retirement from international duty, despite a warning from UEFA president Michel Platini.

The Bayern Munich ace called time on his Les Bleus career last month, with Platini claiming that the 31-year-old could be punished unless he reverses the decision.

However, Ribery maintains that he is fully focused on his club career now, and claims that he has the blessing of France boss Didier Deschamps to retire from the international scene.

"I have already said before I have retired from international duty and I will not go back on my decision," he told Die Welt.

"I have discussed this with France coach Deschamps and we reached an agreement on it.

"I want to focus completely on Bayern Munich in the future. That's all I want to say about the matter. I am not going to get involved in all the politics surrounding my decision."

Ribery earned 81 caps in an eight-year international career.
