Mario Mandzukic slams 'disrespectful' Pep Guardiola

Mario Mandzukic slams Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola for 'not respecting him' enough in the Croatian's last season at the Allianz Arena.

Former Bayern Munich hitman Mario Mandzukic has hit out at coach Pep Guardiola for his management of him last season.

Mandzukic flourished under Guardiola's predecessor Jupp Heynckes and played an instrumental role in helping the club to an unprecedented treble in the 2012-13 season.

The 28-year-old - now at Atletico Madrid - found himself with a less important role to play under the Spaniard's tutelage last season, something which still irks the Croatia international.

"Guardiola disappointed me. He did not treat me with respect," he is quoted as saying by ESPN.

"He did not let me become the top scorer in the Bundesliga. For me things were twice as good when Jupp Heynckes was in charge.

"Would I sit down with [Guardiola] to have a cup of coffee? That is not going to happen. In my professional life I do not have to like everyone, but when I feel negative energy with someone I try and avoid that person."

Mandzukic won back-to-back Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal titles in a trophy-laden two-year spell with the Bavarians, and netted against Borussia Dortmund in the 2013 Champions League final.
