Barnsley boosted their Championship survival hopes thanks to a 2-0 victory over Leicester City at Oakwell this afternoon.
The deadlock was broken with just four minutes on the clock when Leicester's loanee defender Michael Keane turned a cross from Bobby Hassell into his own net.
That prompted a virtual dominance of the entire half by the hosting Tykes, but it looked as though they were going to have to settle for just one goal at the break after both Jason Scotland and Stephen Dawson failed to hit the target from inside the area.
However, with five minutes of the half remaining Barnsley did score a second. Chris O'Grady was the scorer, beating Kasper Schmeichel from inside the area after he had been put clean through by Scotland.
The Tykes continued to apply pressure after the restart and had a chance to extend their lead further in the 50th minute when David Perkins was brought down by Paul Konchesky inside the area. Scotland stepped up to strike the resultant penalty but his effort was saved by Schmeichel.
During the closing stages Leicester began to look more threatening, but their efforts went unrewarded as the home defence held out.
