Report: Barcelona outcast Thomas Vermaelen to join Inter Milan on loan

Serie A giants Inter Milan are reportedly set to win the race for Barcelona outcast Thomas Vermaelen with a January loan move.

Inter Milan have edged closer to securing a deal for Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen, according to a report.

Since leaving Arsenal for Camp Nou in 2014, the Belgium international has made just 11 appearances in La Liga.

Vermaelen enjoyed a fruitful spell on loan at Roma but has made just one cup appearance for Barca this season.

According to TMW, the 31-year-old is closing in on a January loan move to the Nerazzurri despite interest from Everton.

The report goes on to claim that Vermaelen is fearful for his World Cup place should he continue to warm the Barca bench.

Vermaelen has made just 22 appearances for the Blaugrana in all competitions since his move from the Emirates Stadium three years ago.
