Gary Lineker reveals Inter Milan talks

Gary Lineker reveals that he once saw a move to Inter Milan fall through while he was playing for Barcelona.

Former England international Gary Lineker has revealed that he was once close to joining Italian side Inter Milan.

Responding to a question on Twitter, the now Match of the Day presenter confessed that he met up with coach Giovanni Trapattoni, but his club at the time, Barcelona, were not willing to sell him.

"'88 but Barca wouldn't sell, they bought Klinsmann instead. Met Trap in Frankfurt. Shame!, wrote the 52-year-old.

Asked whether he regretted missing out on a switch to the San Siro, Lineker added: "Yes, and of course, we all know how successful Inter were in this period."

Barcelona allowed the centre-forward to leave a year later when he signed for Tottenham Hotspur.
