Matthjis de Ligt's move to Barcelona from Ajax reportedly fell through over excessive wage demands.
The 19-year-old was widely expected to join the La Liga giants this summer but has instead made the switch to Juventus.
According to Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo, the Dutch teenager was asking to be paid more than Barca stalwarts Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba.
The report suggests that such high demands made the deal complicated and the central defender then went on to complete a £67.5m move to Turin.
De Ligt made his Juventus debut earlier this week, scoring an own goal against Inter Milan in the International Champions Cup.
