Barcelona are reportedly weighing up a move for RB Leipzig midfielder Kevin Kampl after being left frustrated in their pursuit of Adrien Rabiot.
The Catalan giants are believed to have ended their interest in Rabiot due to Paris Saint-Germain's reluctance to sell, while Ajax youngster Frenkie de Jong is also out of reach.
Spanish outlet Sport suggests that Kampl is seen as the next best fit, having performed well for Leipzig in the Bundesliga since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen 12 months ago.
Atletico Madrid are also rumoured to have made their interest in Kampl known, potentially sparking a bidding war in the final days of the European transfer window.
Barca are currently relying on Ivan Rakitic and Sergio Busquets in the engine room, with both men featuring from the off in the champions' opening two league matches of 2018-19.
