Barcelona must reportedly sell players or reduce their wage bill in order to register Jules Kounde in their La Liga squad.

Barcelona will reportedly be unable to register Jules Kounde as a La Liga player unless they sell players or reduce their wage bill.

Throughout this week, it has remained unclear whether Barcelona's five high-profile additions would be registered in time for their opening league fixture against Rayo Vallecano.

However, the Catalan giants were able to generate another £85m in revenue on Friday with the sale of another 24.5% of Barcelona Studios.

That put the club in a position where Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski could all be formally included in Xavi's squad for the new domestic campaign.

Furthermore, the new contracts handed to Sergi Roberto and Ousmane Dembele also followed suit, but the situation involving Kounde has not been resolved.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the former Sevilla man will remain on the sidelines until Barcelona find a way to reduce their outgoings.

The report says that Barcelona must offload at least one player or successfully negotiate wage cuts with some of the current members of the squad.

Parting ways with Frenkie de Jong would resolve matters, but it has been consistently claimed that the Netherlands international is keen to stay at Camp Nou.

As it stands, it is unclear whether that will be on his current salary with Barcelona said to be considering legal action with regards to the contract which was signed under the previous leadership.

Memphis Depay is said to be in discussions to mutually end his contract ahead of a possible move to Juventus, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is believed to be attracting interest from Chelsea.

Gerard Pique is allegedly open to helping his boyhood club cut costs, but Relevo says that negotiations have currently been brought to a halt.

Since the start of August, Riqui Puig and Neto have left for LA Galaxy and Bournemouth respectively, while Nico Gonzalez is on the brink of joining Valencia on a season-long loan deal.

Barcelona are also working to find solutions with Samuel Umtiti and Martin Braithwaite, who do not feature in Xavi's plans for the new season.
