Jose Castro: 'Lionel Messi is an alien'

Sevilla president Jose Castro claims that Lionel Messi was the difference between his team and Barcelona in the European Super Cup on Tuesday.

Sevilla president Jose Castro has branded Lionel Messi "an extra-terrestrial" following the Barcelona forward's performance in the European Super Cup.

Messi scored two stunning free kicks as Barca beat Sevilla 5-4 in Georgia, with Pedro ultimately scoring the winner in the 115th minute.

Castro does not believe that there was much between the two teams, but has claimed that Messi's genius proved the difference.

"I'm very proud of my players and my team. As the hymn says, this team never gives up," Castro told AS.

"We had chances even at 5-4. Barcelona are a very powerful team, with 10 players and an extra-terrestrial in Messi.

"I think Sevilla have shown to all of European football what we have, that we weren't here by chance and we fought until the end. We showed what Sevilla means. We have a great coach, a great team and great supporters. We were close to taking the trophy."

Sevilla scored three goals in the final 30 minutes to take the match into extra time, having trailed 4-1 early in the second period.
