Luis Enrique: 'Lionel Messi could win Ballon d'Or as a defender'

Barcelona coach Luis Enrique says that Lionel Messi could still be the best player in the world even if he played in defence.

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique believes that Lionel Messi would prove the best in the world in any position that he tries his hand at - including defence.

The four-time Ballon d'Or winner, who has 356 goals in 428 Barca appearances, played a supporting role and grabbed two assists in Saturday's 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao.

"Messi isn't only the best for his goals but for his assists," Enrique told reporters.

"If he wanted to be the best defender around he would be. He does things that people couldn't do on a Playstation video game console."

Neymar grabbed both goals in the win over Bilbao as Enrique's side maintained their 100 percent start to the La Liga season with a third straight victory.
