Bayern Munich reportedly resolve to sign Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti for £51m over the January transfer window.

Bayern Munich have reportedly resolved to sign Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti for £51m over the January transfer window.

The Frenchman, who moved to Camp Nou in 2016, is viewed as surplus to requirements under manager Ernesto Valverde, making just one start in La Liga so far this season amid a series of injury problems.

Valverde has settled on the defensive pairing of Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet this season, leaving Umtiti with a feeling of frustration at his situation.

According to a report from Spain, Barcelona will let Umtiti leave in the next window for around £51m, prompting Bayern to display serious interest in the player.

A long-term injury to Niklas Sule, ruling him out for the rest of the season as well as Euro 2020, has created the need for reinforcements at the back in January.

The Catalan side have reportedly recognised the need to dispense with several players over January, including Ousmane Dembele, Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal.
