Thomas Vermaelen makes Barcelona bench

Thomas Vermaelen is named on the Barcelona bench for tonight's Champions League semi-final first leg against Bayern Munich.

Belgian centre-back Thomas Vermaelen has been named on the Barcelona bench for tonight's Champions League semi-final first leg against Bayern Munich.

The former Arsenal defender has still not made his debut for Barca, having arrived with a hamstring problem that has plagued him all season.

However, Vermaelen is on the bench at Camp Nou and could make his official debut in what is arguably Barca's biggest game of the season to date.

Javier Mascherano and Gerard Pique both start for the hosts at centre-back, with Jeremy Mathieu on the sidelines.
