Jeremy Mathieu to miss first-leg Champions League clash with Bayern Munich

Jeremy Mathieu will miss Barcelona's Champions League semi-final first leg against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

Barcelona have been dealt a blow ahead of Wednesday's meeting with Bayern Munich after it was confirmed that Jeremy Mathieu would miss the first leg of the Champions League semi-final.

The Frenchman battled with an Achilles tendon problem in training with his teammates and after informing the medical staff of the injury, Barcelona have decided against taking a risk on the defender.

Luis Enrique is likely to respond by partnering Gerard Pique with Javier Mascherano in defence as the hosts look to claim the advantage at Camp Nou.

Barcelona have been handed a boost with the news that Jordi Alba will be available after training alone on Monday.
