Diego Simeone: 'Diego Godin back for Barcelona clash'

Atletico Madrid centre-back Diego Godin should return from a thigh problem against Barcelona in the Champions League next week, according to Atleti boss Diego Simeone.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has said that Diego Godin should be fit to return from a thigh problem for Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Barcelona.

Godin has been on the sidelines since injuring his thigh in the middle of last month and has not been included in the squad for Saturday's La Liga clash at home to Real Betis.

However, Simeone is hopeful that the experienced centre-back will return for the European tie against their La Liga rivals.

"Godin does not have the medical discharge, but he will probably get it on Sunday. He is working to evolve in the best way. The expectation is that by this Tuesday he will be in the best possible condition," Simeone told reporters.

Atletico are currently facing an injury crisis at centre-back, with Jose Gimenez and Stefan Savic also on the sidelines.
