Atalanta BC, Hellas Verona ends goalless

Atalanta BC and Hellas Verona share the spoils on the opening weekend of the Serie A campaign following a goalless draw at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia.

The away side came close to making the breakthrough when Bosko Jankovic darted into the penalty area before unleashing a shot which was well kept out by Marco Sportiello.

The Atalanta stopper was on guard once more moments later to deny another chance, with Luca Toni failing to convert the rebound.

German Deni blew a great chance to put the Nerazzurri ahead in the early stages of the second half, volleying the ball over the crossbar from inside the box.

Sportiello was the hero again with 10 minutes remaining to keep out Juan Taleb's low-drive, ensuring that the game ended all square.
