Aleksandar Tonev completes Celtic loan move

Celtic have announced that they have completed the signing of midfielder Aleksandar Tonev on a season-long loan from Aston Villa.

The Scottish champions will have the option to buy the 24-year-old Bulgarian next summer if his loan spell is a success.

He told the club's website: "Joining Celtic is unbelievable, and I feel really good about it. I'm delighted to have joined the club and I can't wait to meet up with my new teammates and start playing for Celtic.

"I already knew all about Celtic. Everybody in Bulgaria knows Celtic. I spoke to [former Aston Villa and Celtic player] Stiliyan Petrov yesterday and he was very happy for me. He wished me good luck and I hope I can do as well for Celtic as Stiliyan did."

Tonev made 20 appearances for Villa last season.
