Tim Sherwood: 'Win could be a turning point in our season'

Aston Villa coach Tim Sherwood says that his side's win over West Bromwich Albion could be a turning point in their Premier League season as they aim to avoid the drop.

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood has suggested that the team's last-minute victory over West Bromwich Albion could be a turning point as they aim to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The Villans had to rely on an injury-time penalty from Christian Benteke to claim a win that lifts them out of the bottom three, after Saido Berahino had originally equalised following Gabriel Agbonlahor's opener.

"I think [it's a turning point]. We have conceded late against Stoke and it is a real body blow, but to score one late is an excellent feeling and I thought it was thoroughly deserved," said Sherwood, according to BBC Sport.

"We are improving every game and we are still alive and kicking. It's a massive football club and it is at the wrong end of the table. A Tony Pulis side is never dead. It was always likely to be a set piece. We kept at it and someone was looking down on us today.

"I'll try anything, we are at that stage. We hadn't won in 12 Premier League games and had to buck that trend. I think we deserved the three points and onwards and upwards."

Villa now hold 17th spot in the league standings on 25 points from 28 games.
