Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish is hopeful that Barry Bannan will learn from his recent arrest.
The 21-year-old midfielder was suspended and dropped by Villa and then axed by Scotland following his arrest on suspicion of drink driving after a crash on the M1 last month.
McLeish also believes that all young players should take notice following Bannan's misdemeanor.
"It is a wake-up call to every young player," said the boss. "In this day and age, nobody is going to be too upset if a player has a glass of beer but at the right times.
"I am sure lessons have been learned. He is training really hard and looking very impressive in training.
"We have had one to ones and know how we want to go forward. He is knuckling down. I am sure all these things hurt."
Bannan will appear before magistrates in Nottingham this Friday.
