Jordan Ayew: "I promise Aston Villa fans that things will change"

Goalscorer Jordan Ayew insists that the club can still turn their fortunes around after the 3-2 defeat to Watford.

Aston Villa forward Jordan Ayew has promised the club's fans that things will change after the Premier League bottom side sank to an 11th defeat from 14 games this season.

Ayew scored a fine late consolation as Villa lost 3-2 at home to Watford to leave them seven points adrift of safety and without a victory since the opening day of the season.

Despite the club's perilous position, from which no Premier League club has ever gone on to avoid relegation, the Ghanaian is adamant that the squad will turn their fortunes around.

"We had a good game and had chances to score," he told BBC Sport. "It is hard at the moment and I hope that things will change, we just need some luck. It is a difficult moment but we have to keep working and show our character.

"The players are low on confidence, that is normal but one day things will change. I understand the supporters' view, it is a big club but we need the support from them.

"This season is difficult but I believe that we can stay in the Premier League. They have to keep supporting us and I promise them things will change. Everyone is focused, we give 100% but in football sometimes luck is not on your side like today."

Villa next face a trip to the South Coast to face Southampton next Saturday.
