Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says that he tried to bring teenage attacker Jadon Sancho to the Emirates Stadium.

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that he tried to bring Jadon Sancho to the Emirates Stadium before the attacker left Manchester City.

Sancho turned down the chance to sign a new deal with City in favour of joining Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017, and the attacker has been a revelation at the German club.

The 19-year-old has netted 17 goals and registered 27 assists in 60 appearances for BVB, while he scored his first England goals in Tuesday's 5-3 win over Kosovo at St Mary's.

Wenger has claimed that he attempted to 'lure Sancho to London' before Dortmund made their move.

"I wanted to take him from Man City when he didn't get the games. I tried to lure him because he's from London. I tried to get him to Arsenal," Wenger told beIN Sports.

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc, meanwhile, has revealed that a meeting with Manchester United took place earlier this year to discuss a possible move for the teenage attacker.
