Arsene Wenger hints Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez could run down Arsenal contracts

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hints that star duo Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez could run down their contracts at the Emirates.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has suggested that Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez could run down their contracts, which expire in 18 months' time.

The club have been in negotiations with the star duo for some time regarding new deals, but rumours are swirling that neither has yet agreed to the wages on offer.

Regarding to Sanchez's situation in particular, widespread reports have claimed that the Chilean's camp are pushing for a significant hike in his £130,000-a-week wages.

News that Chinese Super League clubs are willing to pay the attacker a £400,000-a-week salary could be used as a bargaining tool by Sanchez, but as it stands, neither player has signed on the dotted line.

In Thursday's press conference, Wenger told reporters: "Eighteen months is quite long in football, you know. They have 18 months contract and are completely committed and will do well as long as they are here.

"Beyond that we will try to extend their contract, but I can't make a subject of that in every press conference. The less you talk about it the better it is."

Both players have been in fine form this season, with Ozil scoring eight goals and Sanchez being the Premier League's joint-top scorer alongside Chelsea's Diego Costa with 11 to his name.

Reports have emerged that Chelsea will make a move for Sanchez if the 27-year-old fails to agree fresh terms with Arsenal.
