Virgil van Dijk: 'Celtic will not let me leave in January'

Reported Arsenal and Spurs target Virgil van Dijk reveals that Celtic have told him that they will not let him leave during this month's transfer window.

Virgil van Dijk has revealed that Celtic have told him that he cannot leave the club during the January transfer window.

The defender, who joined the Scottish champions in 2013, has been linked with moves to Arsenal, Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks.

However, the 23-year-old Dutchman told the Daily Record: "Celtic will not cooperate with a departure in this transfer period.

"It would boost my career if I could step up but I have no problem to stay a bit longer."

Van Dijk has made 32 appearances in all competitions for Celtic so far this season.
