Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly attempting to edge out North London rivals Arsenal in the race to sign Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made a last-ditch attempt to sign Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba.

After impressing in Ligue 1 during the recent campaign, the 18-year-old has been heavily linked with Arsenal, who see the youngster as a key part of their future.

The Gunners have allegedly agreed to pay the required £27m fee in installments, while also allowing Saint-Etienne to keep Saliba for another season.

However, according to BBC Sport, Spurs are looking to edge out their North London rivals by making a bid of their own.

The report does not suggest whether Saliba would still remain at Saint-Etienne for another 12 months, although Spurs are likely to be in a position where they can pay a fee upfront.
