New Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson is said to be preparing a January bid for Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere.

New Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson is reportedly planning to make Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere one of his first signings when the transfer window reopens in January.

Wilshere has had a tough time with the Gunners over the last few years, spending much of his time on the sidelines with injury, and went out on loan with Bournemouth last year.

The 25-year-old is not part of Arsene Wenger's Premier League plans this season and would have been allowed to leave over the summer, although potential moves to Birmingham City in the Championship and Turkish side Fenerbahce fell through.

According to the Daily Mail, Hodgson is "a huge fan" of Wilshere and knows him well from his time as England coach, where he selected the midfielder 29 times.

The newspaper claims that Hodgson, who replaced Frank de Boer at Selhurst Park earlier this week, will keep an eye on Wilshere's progress in the coming months and "make a beeline for him" in January if he continues to play a peripheral role.

Wilshere's current Arsenal contract expires at the end of the season.
