Report: Villarreal join Joel Campbell race

A report claims that Villarreal want to sign Arsenal forward Joel Campbell on loan.

Villarreal have reportedly joined Real Sociedad in the race to sign Arsenal forward Joel Campbell on a loan deal this month.

The 22-year-old had been expected to be given a regular role at the Emirates this season following an impressive World Cup for Costa Rica, but the attacker has not yet started a Premier League match for the Gunners.

Sociedad have been linked with a short-term move this month, but according to Marca, Villarreal are also firmly interested.

Campbell has experience of La Liga having represented Real Betis on loan during the 2012-13 campaign.

The forward's most recent loan occurred at Olympiacos last season.
