Juventus turned focus away from Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar to instead bring in Federico Chiesa from Serie A rivals Fiorentina, according to a report.
The Italian champions signed Chiesa on deadline day earlier this month on an initial loan deal, which contains a €40m (£36.28) purchase option at the end of the season.
Juve were also linked with Aouar, who has attracted strong interest from a number of other clubs on the continent in recent months, not least Premier League side Arsenal.
However, transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio has suggested that Andrea Pirlo's men prioritised signing Chiesa late in the summer window, despite all but agreeing terms with Aouar.
Di Marzio, speaking to Sky Italia, also claimed that Juve may make a fresh approach for the France international when the window reopens in January.
Chiesa was sent off on his debut for the Bianconeri in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Crotone.
