Sergio Ramos bemoans Mesut Ozil's Real Madrid departure

Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos says that he would not have allowed Mesut Ozil to join Arsenal had he been in charge of the club.

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has expressed his disappointment with Mesut Ozil's move to Arsenal.

The German international completed his switch to the Premier League outfit yesterday evening in a deal worth £42.5m.

"It's obvious that he is a special teammate and friend. I've always had a real 'feeling' with him, and it's a shame. He's a great footballer, unique," he told reporters.

"Everyone is free to choose the best for themselves, but if I were to decide what was happening at Madrid, he would be one of the last who would be going. He has decided, and the club too. We have a great team and I hope it will be a big year [for us]."

Ozil has been handed the number 11 shirt at the Emirates Stadium.
