Nicholas: 'Arsenal will consider Ozil sale'

Former Arsenal man Charlie Nicholas believes that Mesut Ozil could be on his way out of the club, less than a year on from signing a new contract.

Charlie Nicholas has suggested that former club Arsenal will consider offloading Mesut Ozil in the January transfer window due to his inconsistent form.

The ex-Germany international has netted in each of his last two outings for the Gunners to recover from a slow start to Unai Emery's tenure.

Ozil was subbed off against Chelsea and then subsequently dropped from the squad to face West Ham United a week later, which Emery put down to an illness bug.

Amid rumours of Turkish giants Fenerbahce showing an interest, ex-Arsenal star Nicholas believes that Ozil could depart the Emirates Stadium less than a year on from signing a new long-term contract.

"If this isn't improved by January, and a decent offer comes in, Arsenal will let him go," he is quoted as saying by The Express. "It keeps coming up that Fenerbahce and these sort of clubs would be interested in looking at him.

"I don't know financially how they could do it, [perhaps] some of the Chinese money that has been floating about. There will be teams that are interested and I'll tell you how it will end up working. It wouldn't be a salary thing, it would be a big chunk of money that he would get and that would nurse the bruising that his salary would have to drop a bit.

"But the thing is, is he really that committed to it? I think we are starting to identify that the new manager, it's taken him quite a bit of time, is getting on fine with him, but he will be saying 'if you're not playing well, you'll be out the team', and he will not accept that Ozil."

Ozil has also been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Manchester United over the past week.
