Manchester City are reportedly set to reignite their interest in signing Borussia Monchengladbach's defensive midfielder Denis Zakaria.
The Citizens are seemingly prioritising the purchase of a new striker, though they are also looking for a long-term successor to 36-year-old Fernandinho, who will see his contract expire next summer.
According to the Manchester Evening News, City will turn their attention to signing Zakaria, who will also see his current deal expire in the summer of 2022.
Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl revealed in July that the 24-year-old is likely to leave the club, which would see the midfielder end his five-year association in the Bundesliga.
The Switzerland international has also been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool, but it is thought that City are the current frontrunners for his signature.
Zakaria has made 134 appearances across all competitions for Monchengladbach, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists.
