Adam Maher dismisses Arsenal link

AZ Alkmaar teenager Adam Maher insists that he will stay in the Netherlands, rather than join Arsenal, should he leave the club in the summer.

Adam Maher has revealed that he would prefer to stay in Holland rather than move to Arsenal, should he leave current club AZ Alkmaar in the summer.

The Dutch teenager is heavily expected to depart the Eredivisie outfit at the end of the season, and AZ manager Gertjan Verbeek has endorsed the Emirates Stadium as a possible destination.

However, Maher has insisted that he has no interest in a switch to England and instead plans to stay in his native league for the foreseeable future.

He told NUSport: "I have already said that I do not want to go. I want a good stay in the Netherlands, at least another two to three years - I am only 19.

"PSV [Eindhoven] is a nice club, but on the other hand I live in Amsterdam. Last summer and last winter I indicated I want to go to PSV, but PSV was the only club that wanted to sign me. But I can also play for Ajax [too].

"In the summer I expect there will be a realistic bid. It is certain that I will be leaving."

Verbeek has valued Maher, who has scored five goals in 19 AZ appearances this season, at £8.5m.
