Arsenal have reportedly opened contract discussions with midfielder Granit Xhaka.
The Switzerland international is currently in his seventh season at the Emirates Stadium, something which appeared unlikely at one stage given years of inconsistency.
However, that can arguably put down to be playing in positions which did not suit him, with current head coach Mikel Arteta instigating an unforeseen renaissance in the 30-year-old.
Xhaka has contributed three goals and five assists from 23 starts in the Premier League this season, playing a key role in the club sitting at the top of the standings.
A strong relationship has been formed with Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard, although injuries to the former and Mohamed Elneny have led to the North London outfit being consistently linked with another signing for the middle of the pitch.

Nevertheless, club officials have been in a position where securing a renewal with Xhaka has also needed to be at the top of their priority list.
The former Borussia Monchengladbach man has a deal which runs until 2024, with there being an option of a further 12 months, yet his status has only been enhanced since his last extension in August 2021.
According to 90 min, talks regarding a new contract have been held between the relevant parties.
The report states that Xhaka is keen to sign another contract with the North Londoners, one which would likely keep him tied to the club for in excess of a decade.

Arteta is also in favour of Xhaka extending his stay with Arsenal at a time when they are moving ever closer to a return to the Champions League.
Xhaka's form this season has resulted in him moving to 18 strikes and 27 assists from 281 appearances in all competitions.
In an interview in the summer, Xhaka acknowledged that he would have not reached that amount of matches had it not been for the influence of Arteta.
Speaking to ESPN, he said: "Without him [Arteta], I would not be here in this football club anymore. He helped me a lot when I was completely down. He took me aside, helped me with small things, step by step, tactically, as a person, mentality, between the team and the club, tried to help me as well with the fans."
Xhaka is expected to feature in the starting lineup when Arsenal face Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
