Arsenal deny that they are in discussions with Barcelona over the potential transfer of David Villa.

Arsenal have reportedly insisted that they are not in talks with Barcelona over signing forward David Villa in the closing days of the transfer window.

The World Cup-winning Spaniard has apparently asked to leave the Camp Nou this January after finding regular football hard to come by since returning from long-term injury.

Barca remain keen to keep the 31-year-old, but it was thought that a bid from Arsenal, who are looking to add attacking firepower to their squad, may test their resolve.

However, the Gunners have tonight told Sky Sports News that there are no negotiations taking place with the Catalan giants over a potential deal.

Villa has scored five goals in 19 Barca appearances this season.
