Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Atletico Madrid's 29-year-old striker Alvaro Morata, according to a report.

Arsenal have closed in on the signing of Atletico Madrid's 29-year-old striker Alvaro Morata, according to a report.

The Spain international sees his loan deal with Juventus expire on June 30, where he has scored 20 goals and registered 16 assists in 67 Serie A appearances during his two-year stay with the Turin side.

The striker will now return to the Spanish capital this summer, with Juventus said to be deciding against the option to sign Morata permanently, despite a clause being included within the agreed loan deal.

As a result, this paves the way for Morata's potential move to the Emirates Stadium, with Sport reporting that a deal is nearing its completion.

Morata has been targeted by the Gunners in the past, but they could now be finally getting their man, with the report suggesting that a £25m deal is close to being agreed.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been on the lookout for striker reinforcements this summer, with Alexandre Lacazette set to leave the club on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract in June, and Eddie Nketiah's future still not tied down.

A move for Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus has been heavily speculated about, but Arteta may now have turned to Morata, who scored just 16 Premier League goals in 47 league appearances for London rivals Chelsea between 2017 and 2019 following his £58m move from Real Madrid.
