Ian Wright: "Roberto Martinez would be the perfect manager for Arsenal"

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright says that Roberto Martinez should be the next manager of Arsenal.

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has said that Roberto Martinez would be the perfect candidate to succeed Arsene Wenger as manager of the club.

The Spaniard guided Everton to a 3-0 win over the Gunners on Sunday as they boosted their hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League.

Defeat at Goodison Park has piled the pressure on Wenger, with many believing that his 18-year-reign at the club could be coming to an end, and Wright has made clear who his preferred choice as manger would be should he leave.

"That's the kind of manager that you want, a good young manager that has proven himself tactically, he knows what he's doing," Wright said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

"It's got to be that kind of man, Roberto Martinez, he's the perfect one. If someone was to ask me who I want, I'd say Roberto Martinez.

"That's the kind of manager you've got to be looking at to take Arsenal forward."

Martinez is in his first year as manager of Everton, having left FA Cup holders Wigan Athletic last summer after a four-year spell.
