Faye White calls time on career

Arsenal and England defender Faye White decides to retire following 15 years in the game.

The captain of Arsenal ladies Faye White has decided to retire from the sport with immediate effect.

During her career with the Gunners, White won 31 trophies, including skippering the club to a Quadruple in 2007, two Trebles and four Doubles.

"She was a born leader. She had a great attitude and was, and still is, a great role model for the women's game," manager Vic Akers told the club's official website.

"I think we'll have to go a long way to find another player similar to her. She was one of my best signings ever. She captained the team magnificently and always showed great attitude. She's a great person too.

"We'll miss her as a player but I know she'll continue to contribute massively to the women's game in her new ambassadorial role with the club, and I would like to wish her all the best for that."

White also made 90 appearances for England, many as captain.
