Arsene Wenger: 'We offered Alexis Sanchez chance to develop as a player'

Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger believes that Alexis Sanchez may have joined the club based on the opportunity to help develop his career in the Premier League.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has insisted that Alexis Sanchez chose to join the club because of the Gunners' playing style and scope for development.

Sanchez moved to North London from Barcelona in the summer for £35m, with Wenger saying that he told the Chilean that it would help him to develop the quality of his game.

"I just tried, like ever manager, to convince the player that you can help him to develop the quality of his game, that the way we play football would suit him and that's why I think he has chosen us in the end," said Wenger, according to the Daily Mail.

"I think at the end of the day every great player has a choice to make. He chose us and we're very happy for that. I don't know why he has chosen us over anyone else but we're very happy that he has done that."

Sanchez has bagged nine goals in 15 Premier League appearances for Arsenal.
