Paul Merson: 'Arsene Wenger like a squatter who won't leave'

Former Arsenal player Paul Merson insists that club chiefs must act this summer because Arsene Wenger will simply refuse to leave the Emirates Stadium on his own terms.

Paul Merson has urged Arsenal chiefs to replace Arsene Wenger this summer, describing his former boss as "a squatter" who refuses to quit the club.

The Frenchman looks likely to remain in charge at the Emirates Stadium for a 21st year, despite seeing his side fall well short once again in the Premier League.

Merson, who made more than 400 appearances for the Gunners during his playing days, has made no secret in the past of his desire to see the back of Wenger.

Speaking to talkSPORT following Arsenal's 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Thursday, for which many supporters decided against turning up, the 48-year-old said: "It's getting to a bit of an awkward situation now. He's getting like a squatter really.

"You know, you have a squatter in your house and you want them out - and you can't! They've got to make a decision. They need change! Arsene Wenger is getting a lot of stick now, and he's going to be forgotten for all the great things he's done for the club."

Arsenal are third in the Premier League in a season where all of the established big boys have fallen short in the top flight.
