Roberto Mancini praises his "strong team" as Manchester City cement a two-point lead at the top of the Premier League.

Roberto Mancini has praised his "strong team" after Manchester City defeated Arsenal yesterday to regain their lead at the top of the Premier League table.

City briefly conceded the top spot to Manchester United when the Red Devils defeated Queens Park Rangers 2-0, but City's 1-0 victory over the Gunners cemented their two-point lead in first place.

"It was very important after Chelsea because we didn't deserve to lose that game but this is football," Mancini said.

"For our character this was a big test and we showed we are a strong team.

"I think we deserved to win this game and I am delighted for this because after Chelsea it was really important to beat Arsenal and go again to the top of the table."

Mancini also said that yesterday's victory could have put an end to Arsenal's title hopes.

"It is difficult for Arsenal because they are 12 points behind us, 10 behind United and five behind Tottenham," he said.

"Yes, it is difficult for them but there are a lot of games to the end."

Manchester City have taken 41 points from 16 games.
