Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta reveals that first-choice right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu has suffered a fresh calf injury - this time on his other leg.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Takehiro Tomiyasu has suffered a fresh calf injury after Thursday's 2-1 Premier League win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Japan international returned from his original problem to make the bench against Brentford at the weekend but was nowhere to be seen in the midweek contest.

Arsenal confirmed on social media that Tomiyasu's absence was down to a calf injury, and Arteta has now revealed that the right-back's issue is on the other leg after his initial injury caused him to miss three top-flight games for the Gunners.

"Yes, it was the other calf. So he came back and he was completely fine, and in training he felt the other calf," Arteta told reporters at his post-match press conference. "So this in an issue because he's a professional, who is giving absolutely everything to help us, and in the last few months he's not been fit."

Arsenal have moved one point behind Manchester United with two games in hand after Thursday's dramatic win, which Arteta described as "phenomenal" after Jose Sa's own goal five minutes into added time.

Following the victory, Gunners captain Alexandre Lacazette - whose effort deflected off Sa into the back of the net - aimed a sly dig at Ruben Neves after the Wolves midfielder questioned Arsenal's celebrations in their 1-0 win at Molineux on February 10.
