How Arsenal could line up against Southampton

Sports Mole looks at how Arsenal could line up in Saturday's FA Cup clash with Southampton.

Arsenal will be looking to book their spot in the fifth round of the FA Cup when they travel to fellow Premier League side Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

The Gunners appear to have overcome their struggles in recent weeks, winning five of their last six matches in all competitions, including a 3-0 success over Newcastle United in the Premier League on Monday night.

Mikel Arteta's side also overcame Newcastle in the previous round of the FA Cup to advance to this stage, with Emile Smith Rowe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the scoresheet for the holders.

Arsenal will be unable to call upon central defender Pablo Mari on Saturday due to a calf problem, while Dani Ceballos will have to be assessed on Friday as he battles a similar issue.

Arteta's squad is otherwise in excellent shape, but the head coach is expected to make changes from the win over Newcastle, particularly as they face Southampton again in the league on January 26.

Nicolas Pepe, Willian and Gabriel Martinelli could all be handed starts in support of Aubameyang, while there is likely to be a spot for Mohamed Elneny in the middle of the park.

Hector Bellerin and Gabriel Magalhaes are also pushing for returns in a defensive area, while Eddie Nketiah will hope to potentially secure some minutes off the bench.

Youngsters in the shape of Bukayo Saka and Smith Rowe have been key to Arsenal's change in fortunes in recent weeks, and the pair could therefore be rested ahead of the league clash at St Mary's.
