Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand says that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 'reminds him of Thierry Henry' after his double for Arsenal against Manchester City.

Rio Ferdinand has likened Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Thierry Henry following the Arsenal striker's brace in Saturday's FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester City.

The Gabon international scored both goals for the Gunners at Wembley Stadium in the 2-0 victory to set up a final with either Manchester United or Chelsea next month.

Aubameyang's second goal in particular caught the eye of former Man Utd defender Ferdinand, with the 31-year-old running in behind from the left and slotting the ball through Ederson's legs.

The manner of the goal earned comparisons to Arsenal legend Henry, but Ferdinand also felt Man City's defenders could have done more to prevent the goal.

"It's a great goal, the composure was fantastic - played on by [Benjamin] Mendy," he told BT Sport. "The young centre-half, [Eric] Garcia, has got to see that - you've got to know who you're playing against.

"When there are players who are willing to run in behind you, you've got to try to cover that area, but once he's in there, he reminds you a bit of Thierry when he's bearing down on goal like that.

"He just opens himself up and places it through the keeper's legs, fantastic finish."

Aubameyang now has 25 goals in all competitions this season, with 20 of those coming in the Premier League to leave him behind only Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy in the Golden Boot race.
