Arsene Wenger says that England could be surprise victors at Euro 2012.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has backed England to be surprise victors at the 2012 European Championship.

England's 1-0 win over Spain at Wembley on Saturday proves that England are "interesting outsiders", according to Wenger.

"I would place England and France roughly at the same level," Wenger said.

"They cannot say that they have the quality to win the European Championship, but if it all clicks well in their preparation and the form of their best players, they might make a good surprise.

"You would say it's between Spain, Germany, Holland, and then just behind them are England and France who can be outsiders - interesting outsiders.

"Let's wait and see the draw, and see who is available and in form."

The Frenchman also believes that the expectation put on England by fans adds extra pressure to the team.

"England is always under pressure. The expectation level is so high in England that it always puts extra pressure on the team.

"Let's give them credit, support and hopefully we will have a good surprise for once."

Fabio Capello's side crashed out in the second round at the last World Cup in 2010.
