Arsene Wenger allowed on Udinese touchline

UEFA delay suspension of Arsene Wenger allowing him to be on the bench for Arsenal's Champions League match tomorrow evening.

UEFA have allowed Arsene Wenger to take his place on the touchline for Arsenal's Champions League qualifier second leg away to Udinese tomorrow evening.

The boss has been banned by European football's governing body for two-matches following "improper conduct" during the first-leg between the two sides. He was found to have communicated with his team in violation of a previous touchline ban.

The suspension initially ruled Wenger out of being pitch side for tomorrow's contest, but UEFA have now agreed to Arsenal's proposal of delaying the ban while they prepare to contest the charge fully.

"The appeals body has granted a stay of execution to the appeal lodged earlier today by Arsenal and their manager Arsene Wenger. The appeals body will take a decision in due time, but not before Arsenal's Champions League game against Udinese Calcio in Italy on Wednesday," read a UEFA statement.

"Following the play-off first-leg match between Arsenal and Udinese last week, the control and disciplinary body banned Wenger from carrying out his duties at Arsenal's next two Uefa competition matches and fined the club €10,000 [£8,740]. Without today's decision by the appeals body, the manager's suspension would have taken effect for the play-off second leg at Udinese."

The previous ban dates back to his abuse of referee Massimo Busacca in last season’s defeat to Barcelona.
