Adrian Mutu has scored his third Ligue 1 goal of the season as Ajaccio defeated Reims 2-0 at home this evening.
The Romanian striker could have scored in the 10th minute when he headed Chahir Belghazouani's cross towards the Reims goal from the centre of the box, but Agassa Kossi made a good save.
Mutu had another chance to break the deadlock at Stade Francois Coty in the 17th minute, but he failed to keep his header on target.
Then eight minutes later the former Chelsea striker took an attempt on the Reims goal from the left side of the six-yard box and once again failed to find the target.
However, the 33-year-old eventually etched his name on the scoresheet and he did so just after the half-hour mark when he put the slightest of touches with his head on a free kick.
Kamel Ghilas could have restored parity immediately afterwards had Guillermo Ochoa not been able to keep out his well-placed shot.
Reims started the second half with more intensity and urgency and were unlucky not to score in the 64th minute when Julien Toudi saw his shot come off the post.
Then with 13 minutes remaining on the clock, Ajaccio went 2-0 up much against the run of play when Mickael Tacalfred headed in a free kick into his own net while trying to clear it.
