Former Fleetwood Town defender Rob Atkinson joins Accrington Stanley on a two-year contract.

Former Fleetwood Town defender Rob Atkinson has signed a two-year contract with Accrington Stanley.

The 26-year-old, who primarily operates in central defence, has admitted that Stanley boss James Beattie played a big role in convincing him to make the move.

"It's good to be back. I spoke to the gaffer over the summer and listened to what he had to say about the club and I really wanted to be a part of that - hopefully we can have a good season," he told PA.

Atkinson spent a loan period with Stanley last season.
