James Beattie becomes the new manager of League Two outfit Accrington Stanley.

Former England international James Beattie has been named the new manager of League Two side Accrington Stanley.

The 35-year-old joined the club in a playing capacity in November last year and contributed six goals as Stanley preserved their status as a Football League club.

Despite having led the team to survival, Leam Richardson opted to step down from his position as manager last month to join the coaching staff at Chesterfield.

However, the vacancy has now been filled by Beattie, although it is unclear if he will carry on playing alongside his managerial duties.

Beattie made five appearances for England.
